What will the Sheriffs Ranches Enterprises do with the vehicle I donate?

If the vehicle is in very good to excellent condition and it is suitable for use in the program, it may be assigned to the Ranch for use. Otherwise, vehicles are sold at our Auto Sales Lot (located in Live Oak, FL). Proceeds provide operational funds to the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches.

Can you pick up the vehicle or do I need to bring it to you?

We will be happy to arrange a convenient time to pick up the vehicle wherever located in the state of Florida.

What requirements must be met to donate my vehicle?

How much of a charitable contribution deduction will I receive for my donation?

The American Jobs Creation Act of 2004 changed the regulations surrounding tax deductibility of donations of motor vehicles, boats and airplanes. To take a charitable contribution deduction for the gift of your vehicle, you must itemize your deductions on Schedule A of your Form 1040. For vehicles which are used in program, the "fair market value" which takes into consideration the condition and mileage of the vehicle may be taken as a deduction. For vehicles that are sold, the deduction is limited to the greater of $500 or the gross sales proceeds.

If the car is sold, Sheriffs Ranches Enterprises will notify the donor of the gross sales proceeds within 30 days of the sale of the vehicle. The written acknowledgement, or in some cases Form 1098 C, is required by IRS and may need to be included with the donor's tax return. In addition, the charitable contribution deduction is taken in the year in which the vehicle is donated, even if it is sold in a later year.
